These errors are by no means an entire game-breaker, but they can get quite annoying. A small number of them don’t work or function as intended. The simulator offers a wide range of modifications that where you can customize your own space and time. This is a challenge that the game forces you to face. Creating a well-functioning galaxy requires substantial knowledge in astronomy. In reality, though, it contains vast information about the cosmos and how they behave. The possibilities are endless.Īt a glance, US2 can seem mindless and silly, since all you do is create massive explosions and giant black holes. This results in hours of physics defying fun. Everything you do produces an instant reaction to your planets and its surroundings.

You also get to manipulate what goes on in the universe, such as meteors and black holes colliding. Create any type of planet or modify the Earth to your liking. There is virtually no limit to what you can do in this game. You may run into glitches that would either freeze your game or reset it. The memory required is also low, so you can run it on most computers. You can clearly see if there’s water or lava on the surface of a planet from far away. Create your own galaxies and defy the laws of physics.įor how smooth this game runs, its graphics are highly fine-tuned and detail. This is all just the beginning, and we have a lot more planned for the future of the project.Learn about space and play with planets in Universe Sandbox 2 (US2).

For instance, the super novas are quite impressive visually. We can now leverage the latest graphics and shader tech to do things like glowing craters, variable water levels, and all manner of eye candy. We even support a large number of integration modes, and the entire system is configurable.

As well the base gravity simulation is more stable, accurate, and faster. We now simulate climate on planets, stellar evolution for stars, internal material compositions, water level, material phases, detailed physics of bodies impacting, including cratering, shockwaves, land deformation and surface heating. It has a custom physics engine as well, that allows us to do things like multi-threading and even leverage the power of a GPU if it supports OpenCL. Universe Sandbox ² is completely redone from the ground up in a new game engine (Unity 3D). It was limited quite a bit by the technology it was built on, and it only worked on certain platforms. The original Universe Sandbox is mostly a gravity simulator, written primarily by Dan.
